Boys Over Flowers Episode 6 Review

I was able to watch Kkotboda Namja’s episode 6 last night and i have to agree with other people’scomment about how Jun Pyo in this version is sooo touchy feely with other girls even if Jandi is around…

I noticed that not just during the volleyball scene but also in the scene where they were dancing after the fireworks display…

However, despite that slight deviation and observation, i am still enjoying every single minute and every single scene of this series…

Maybe it’s the sentimentalist in me that just finds the story of Hana Yori Dango irresistible no matter what… Even if there are tons of versions already that came out or may still come out, I have no doubt that i’d still get to enjoy each and every one of them for it’s entirety… More than the actors and the production values, i guess it’s really the storyline that gives me the giddy high school feeling that i get whenever i watch it… IT JUST NEVER GETS OLD…

(but maybe i’m speaking way too ahead of myself since i am now cringing at the thought of a Filipino version… hahaha! LOL)

Despite it’s imperfections and flaws, i still give the Korean version a two thumbs up… Hye Sun might be old looking but she’s a fairly good actress… I’ve watched some of her work on Pure 19 and probably that’s where i get a point of comparison as to how differently she portrayed herself as a High School girl compared to a 19 year old woman who got married at an early age…

Of course, there’s no denying that the attraction of this version lies mostly on the eye candy but aside from good looks… Lee Minho can really, really act! My heart aches for him every time he looks at Ji Hoo and Jandi together… That scene where he went kayaking just to compete with Ji Hoo (albeit unknowingly) was full of repressed competitiveness and frustration that it is somehow funny but also heart tugging…

I love how he’s sooooo forcefully quiet when he found Ji Hoo and Jandi kissing that even i was shaking in my boots… You can feel him holding on to his violent tendencies because it is his best friend and the girl he loves in front of him but heaven forbid if it were any lesser mortal…

Another noteworthy thing to mention are the side glances and the hidden smiles that he throws Jandi whenever he does something for her… as if he’s a kid hungry for her approval that even a simple nod from her would really, really make his day… He had nailed down the expression of hope and pride too whenever he does that…

Again, Hyun Joong’s acting for this episode greatly improved… I can sympathize with him, feel my heart going out to him… Not bad for a newbie…I’ve been a staunch believer of Hyun Joong since day one and even more so now… aside from that of course, he’s NEVER BEEN MORE GOOD LOOKING than on episode 6… (gosh! Those scenes by the stairwell and when he walked up to Jandi at the cafeteria literally made my heart stop… How can someone so feminine looking be that manly? BE STILL MY HEART!)

Kim Bum also showed some of his acting chops during the part where he was talking to Ji Hoo about betraying Jun Pyo and their friendship… he might always be the smiley, happy go lucky guy but this is the scene where he shows where that hidden arrogance as a rich heir has been hiding all this time… The contrast between the Yi Jung that is laidback and the transformation to a firm protector for Jun Pyo in this episode was absolutely amazing…

Looking forward to succeeding episodes and more break out scenes after this episode… Monday can’t come soon enough! *sigh*
