Mischievous Kiss Ep 1-2

So here’s the deal…

Uber low ratings and my bias and blind adoration for Kim Hyun Joong aside, i absolutely enjoyed watching the first two episodes of Mischievous Kiss

I thought it was poignant, funny in some moments and most of all it holds such great promise that the episodes will only get better as they speed along…

As typical of any Group 8 vehicle, the Production design is full of awesomeness… The visuals are practically awashed with colors… the scenes look crisp and vivid to the eyes and there is always something new that is incorporated in terms of the directing that makes it seems fresh and a notch above other kdramas of old… (In this case, it is the music incorporated in the dream sequences plus the almost manga-ish quality that Ha Ni takes on whenever she falls into a daze when thoughts of Seung Jo befalls her and the scene transitions that are way too cool for words…)

It’s no secret to the ulzzangs how to me, Kim Hyun Joong can not do anything bad so to me, his acting can give Al Pacino a run for his money even in BOF but suffice it to say that i’ve had new respect for him in this role…

He is showing a much wider range of emotions than his character of Jihoo in BOF and i am loving every unexpected smile… every hint of softness that his character is showing as Hani slowly starts to melt his cool, unaffected exterior…

Sure, the first episode of the series can benefit much from some serious editing of the dream sequences but i think it is also a good way to establish what kind of character Ha Ni has and how her every waking moment is filled with her schoolgirl obsession of Seung Jo (i so feel you girl… With that heavenly face? Who would not fall in love with him?)…

After all, one must remember that in the manga and in the TW version, much of the spazzworthy scenes coming from this story stems from the lead girls imagination and her visions of a Seung Jo who is also in love with her virtually as much as she is in love with him in real life…

I can say that the first episode was not particularly draggy but that some scenes just went on a tad too long…

However, in episode 2, it seems as if the drama has hit it’s stride and i began to truly enjoy and look forward to the scenes that would unfold after the other as if i was seeing ISWAK with fresh eyes despite the fact that i have almost memorized its premise since i have read the anime and watched all three versions of it… (Cartoons, Japanese and Taiwanese) and yet watching the Korean version of it now, i can still say that it is still one of the most winning storylines EVER…

The chemistry between Jung So Min and Kim Hyun Joong is understated and yet i can feel the electrical tension that they seem to give out whenever they share a sweet scene together (The pervert scene for one where i squeed out loud in giddiness and that whole PE uniform chasing scene by the courtyard)…

I can say that i know this coupling will be full of WIN once the sweet episodes unfold and once Seung Jo starts to discover how he’s falling for Ha Ni against his intentions or wishes… I know that I WOULD BE BREATHLESS WITH GIDDINESS…

As always, my favorite support in the whole series remains to be Seung Jo’s omma and Ha Ni’s appa… It is just so refreshing to see parents in kdramas that more or less help the lead characters to move along towards their path to love rather than detract from it…

This is the first time that i’m seeing Jung So Min in action but she is just sooooo cute it hurts! I know that this has been said a thousand times over but yes, she does remind me of YEH in Goong in more ways than one… Her facial expression is just right… Not overkill or annoying and i love how she makes the thought of being nervous believable whenever Seung Jo is around the vicinity…

Laslty, i think the reason why this franchise remains to be adorable to me no matter what version it is is due to the fact that it is relatable… It brings back memories of that whole teenage phase when you’re pining for a boy who wouldn’t give you the time of day and how in your heart you hate him sometimes and yet once he does something nice for you, you can just forget about his jerkwad attitude with a snap of the fingers…

ISWAK is every girls fantasy come to life… That of an unrequited love that gets reciprocated when you’ve almost given up and how when you least expect it, it gets returned that it made all the pining you did worth it…

I love the twist that they have given to the kversion and i like how the series seem to be moving at a fast pace starting on the second episode…

All comments on viikii aside that flash onscreen just as much as the subtitles does claiming Hyun Joong to be theirs, i still stake my claim and say that Kim Hyun Joong is one of the most gorgeous beings who EVER walked the face of this earth…

So, as a precaution i’m just telling everyone that while i am watching this series, I am taking a page off Oh Ha Ni’s book and imagining that i am in her shoes and that i’m the one living with Seung Jo and no negative comments or low rating can keep me from scoring that thought a 100% in my book…

Bring on Episode 3 and i hope people can begin to discover this shows goodness because honestly, it deserves much more LOVE than the dismal ratings its currently getting right now…

PS: I had to do a double take in Episode 3’s preview because i thought Hyun Joong looked so much like Yamapi in this scene…

And i know that the bears at the end of each episode are signature trademarks of the PD of this series who also directed Goong and used the same style there but i still ADORE IT!
